And G-d created the two Great Lights, the Great Light to rule during the Day, and the Smaller Light to rule during the Night, and the Stars.

Whatever. You are better than us.

So, anyhoo, I was thinking about "The Little Mermaid,", the film and brand. The movie made 211 million world wide. This was is 1989 when 211 million meant something.

I don't think there are many similiarites between "The Little Mermaid," and The Mermaid of Brooklyn, by Amy Shearn.

In all ways, the Amy Shearn experience is superior.

However....fair is fair.

The Little Mermaid had the voice stylings of Samuel E. Wright singing the Academy Award winning song, "Under the Sea." According wikipedia, "Wright released a soul music record in 1973, "There's Something Funny Going On" b/w "Three Hundred Pounds of Hungry" on the Paramount label." He managed to work as Sebastian the crab from 1989 till 1992. Bless em for having a career in the arts. It ain't easy.

That said, "Under the Sea" is kind of boring. And it is insidious. Like, we're all supposed to live under the water. Sounds like a Wes Anderson movie.





Leave Mermaids to the professionals.

This is my third day on a 7 or 8 day project to personally endorse a book.The Mermaid of Brooklyn, by Amy Shearn. These are brand new links by the way. And one of them goes to Twitter.

In any event, I contend that this book of fiction explains and entertains and in this world that is real value.

I am a business person. I work with the exchange of goods to merchants across America. There are two questions in a buying decision. Is the price too high? Or is the price too low? Also, can you get it there on time.

Let's look at this new book as a product. This product costs about 10 bucks. And if you have Amazon Prime...free freight. 10 bucks.

Let me tell you further about myself since it is my blog. I spend that much for lunch 3 or 4 times a week. It depends on how often we go to Culvers or Dominicks. But it's usually between $6 and $10 dollars a day. The fact is that I enjoy the time I spend with my friends and co-workers and I get to eat at the same time and it's worth the $10 to have a sandwich and a salad.

However, after an hour that experience is gone. Famished. You wouldn't remember what you ate. Or what you talked about. Back at work, trying to satisfy the people, answering e-mails. Back to reality.

Consider, the same $10.00 for purchasing a book. A book that will make you laugh out loud and then make you cringe in anxiety. And will give you hours and hours of intellectual pleasure. Just $10.00. It is truly a value proposition.

And The Mermaid of Brooklyn is the perfect mother's day gift for mothers of a certain age.

Mermaids Part 2 of possibly 8.

Full disclosure. Amy Shearn, author of the upcoming novel, The Mermaid of Brooklyn, is, in fact, my daughter. And from my basement, I hope to create a groundswell of love and support for her book.

It is no secret to say that the story of the novel is taken from a Lipkin/Horowitz family story. The Horowitz in question happens to be my maternal grandmother.

Shearn (or as I call her, Amy) reimagines this tale as the defining moment in the life of her character, Jenny Lipkin (nee Horowitz).

I believe that Amy is on the right track with my grandmother. Because, Jenny, AKA Amama, was a holy terror. Very opinionated lady, what with the socialist and Yiddish schools, the abortions, her taste in men. This Jenny made an impression during her allotted time.

Jenny Lipkin of today's Brooklyn, believes she had once been making an impression. Very money island, don't you know. Fancy shoes, a creative place to ply her craft, a magazine. No the girl, the young woman if you must, gets in a predicament and is looking for an answer. For this Jenny Lipkin it is the end times!

Is Jenny Lipkin saved?

You've got the read the book.

I mean it. It's a priority.

Mermaids part 1:

When you think of mermaids, what do you think of....beside, of course, the upcoming novel, "The Mermaid of Brooklyn." by Amy Shearn.

Like me, I'm sure you wonder if Tom Hanks worked in New York in the movie, Splash. And if so was it Brooklyn. And then Daryl Hannah  would also a  mermaid of Brooklyn.

I don't remember much of the movie. Do you? I remember that Daryl Hannah made a frightening sound that smashed things. She is very sexy. Tom Hanks works on a dock selling fish or vegetables.

So, let's check out the internet and see what we can find....

Tom Hanks does work in New York. And Dayrl Hannah appeared in Brooklyn.
