It is not clear how many Americans believe in the Devil. (Just capitalizing the name to give Him His due).
The most recent poll I could find is from Gallup in 2016.
Gallup concluded that 61% believed in the Devil (Gallup did not capitalize). There has been a slight decline in beliefs since Gallup started asking these questions in 2001, a devilish year to be sure. Let's estimate a further decline in these beliefs and estimate that 50% of Americans believe in the Devil. That means there are about 115 million believers in the Devil out there.
Would you then give up your immortal soul to attain riches, power, and/or success in this world in exchange for everlasting damnation in the next?
Famously it is said that Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil in order to learn to play the blues. Now there is a Robert Johnson Blues Foundation. Hmmm?
You may recognize these photos because they are the only two that reportedly exist of Robert Johnson.
His career output consisted of 29 songs recorded in 1937 and 1937. You will likely recognize some of them.
Crossroad Blues
Love In Vain
Sweet Home Chicago
Good stuff.
Let's take a closer look at this 'deal' with the Devil.
If you sold your soul to the devil in exchange for infinite knowledge, then wouldn’t you know how to re-negotiate?
ReplyDeleteNot sure how that works. But if this all keeps it, I will likely revisit the topic.
