Day 30: If it's Sunday, it's FACEBOOK Style

Hello Again Everybody:

Unseen City

You'll notice on the right hand side of dons-basement is the cover of Unseen City, by Amy Shearn. The book is now available for pre-order. Click on the link to order a copy or a few copies.  The New York Times says it is a good time for support the book industry.
Red Hen Press , the publisher of Unseen City, is an independent literary press which not only publishes high quality fiction and poetry but offers free writing workshops in the LA area.  Both the author and publisher would appreciate.

Make It Last Forever

Benjamin Shearn, film editor, writer, and producer, created a video for the Without Precedent Quarantine Festival. The challenge was to produce a short film in 48 hours while in confinement.
You can check it out below.

I'm walking, yes indeed.

On the side of the house in our neighbor, there is an image of a loaf of bread. If you zoom in you can see that it's from the Tibma's Bakery.

Tibma's Bakery was located in La Porte, Indiana as far back as 1921. It was been out of business for several years. The city of La Porte is planning on demolishing the historic building that I can't find of photo of.

Just a few blocks from where our kids (see above) went to Lincoln School, we saw two houses with amazing sculptures. This could not have been random. The sculptures are part of the Musee Highland by the artist Shee. Dons-basement has reached out to them to find our more about Shee.

The stones have abated somewhat.
Feedback/Support/Criticism

The basement received the following e-mail regarding the Fictional Bands post.

"i did not want to post this publicly and start a feud but i am concerned that Sultans of Swing might violate one of your rules for a fictional band in that the song was apparently named after an actual band. i would feel better if you told me that the band claimed to be the Sultans of Swing but that was  not their actual name."

Harry Vanda and George Young
This is the type of close reading that we cherish in the basement. Although I did not reach Mark Knopfler for comment, here is what I have determined. In the song, "Sultans of Swing," band members. "Guitar George" and "Harry" are called out by name. Those were real people from the Australian band, The Easybeats." and friends of Knopfler. Thus, the Sultans of Swing, referred to in the song are not the band that Knopfler saw Deptford, South London in 1977. And thus they remain a fictional band. Thank you for your comment.

Want to get an E-mail every time I post. Why wouldn't you? Dons-basement followers get many benefits and special perks. Or they will some time. Click on the blue follow link on the right. Not the one on this little picture...the other one.

Stay safe and sane everybody.

  1. I pre-ordered already some time ago. So it looks like I pre-pre-ordered. So I should be at the head of the line.

  2. You can always re-pre-order in case they run out of paper.
